Family Places in the Pacific NW

Trying to find something to do this weekend but want info from another mom who has been there? Here I will post info about different places we as a family have been to and what our experience was, how much it cost, etc. Click on the location title to go to their website.

In Alphabetical Order:

Lava Butte
Check out the Lava River Cave, lava cast forest, lava Butte cinder cone, and visitor rest area.

Oregon Zoo

Our experience has been that getting there as soon as the park opens, is the best bet. You can spend all day at the zoo, visiting each exhibit and all the animals. Picnic lunches and drinks are welcome in the park and if you are trying to keep your costs reasonable, I highly suggest this route. Once in the park, decide where you want to start. Starting at the back of the zoo and working your way forward, is sometimes an easy way to avoid crowds at some of the more popular exhibits. If your kids want to feed the Lorileets, get there early because if you wait until the late afternoon, the birds will be full and they might not get the chance to feed them. If you go on the first nice day of the season, be prepared for a very busy day at the zoo!

Price $0-9.75/person (if you have a larger family and know you’ll come back a few more times in the year, an annual membership is a great idea and will save $)
Parking $1

Sunriver Oregon $$$$$

This is such a fabulous family vacationing spot! Any time of year, there is plenty to do for everyone; hiking, walking, biking, skiing, fishing, shopping, ice skating, sledding, etc. There are paths through out the community so you can ride or walk everywhere. It’s close to lots of local lakes, Lava Butte, and the High Desert Museum. It’s not a cheap vacation but it’s a wonderful peaceful place to visit.
